General Information
Fred Carter Park was purchased by the city in 1971 and features roughly 29 acres of wilderness area and a 2 acre lake.

The name of the park was a result of a contest put on by city administration that allowed for elementary school age children to submit potential names for the park. Ten-year-old Sara Hawkins 47-word submission was chosen as the winner and the park was named after her neighbor, Fred W. Carter. Sara's submission noted Mr. Carter's love for Bellefontaine and Logan County and his expansive knowledge of both. On April 14, 1987, the park was dedicated and formally "christened" by Sara.
